Saint Mary's will hit the road this weekend for the Inverness Intercollegiate as they look to compete against 13 other schools.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Saint Mary's begins play at the Inverness Intercollegiate tomorrow and will look to repeat history from two years ago when they won the tournament.

THE LINEUP
The Gaels will shuffle up their lineup a tad as they will send Blake Hathcoat, Michael Slesinski, Ash Hakim, Ethan Farnam, and Ryan Grauman with Ethan Ashbrook competing as an individual.

THE FIELD
In the field, 14 teams will be competing alongside Saint Mary's including five teams in the top-50 Golfstat rankings: Auburn (9), Texas Tech (16), LSU (20), Tennessee (32), and Ohio State (33). Rounding out the field is Kennesaw State, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, and UNC Wilmington.

THE COURSE
Since being founded in 1903, the Inverness Club has held multiple major tournaments including four US Opens with the most recent occurrence coming in 1979. The course has played host to the PGA Championship twice, US Amateur and 2019 US Junior Amateur, US Senior Open twice, and men's NCAA Championship twice, most recently in 2009.

GAELS AT INVERNESS CLUB
Last year at the Inverness, Saint Mary's had a strong performance as they placed tied for fifth in the tournament. The Gaels were led by Ethan Farnam who posted the best finish for SMC at 8-over to tie for 17th. Blake Hathcoat (9-over) and Michael Slesinski (10-over) followed closely behind to bring the Gaels to the fifth place finish.

Saint Mary's claimed the Inverness Intercollegiate championship title in the 2017-18 season and they will look to win the tournament again this year in their third straight appearance.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Gaels competed in the Husky Invitational where they placed seventh in two rounds of action. Ash Hakim led the Gaels' efforts as he finished the tournament with a tied for 19th finish. Slesinski and Hathcoat also had a top-25 finish as they each shot 1-over to place tied for 24th.

Ethan Ashbrook and Ryan Grauman rounded out the field for the Gaels with a tied for 38th finish.

WCC PRESEASON POLL
Saint Mary's was selected to finish third according to the West Coast Conference preseason coaches poll as announced Thursday. Only Pepperdine and BYU were selected to finish in front of the Gaels. SMC finished third at last year's conference tournament but returned every member of their team this fall.

Senior Blake Hathcoat was also one of 10 golfers named to the All-WCC Preseason Team. Hathcoat led the Gaels last year in stroke average and earned his first First Team honor as a junior.
