MORAGA, Calif. — No. 6 Saint Mary's returns home after a four-game road trip for two matches this week against Northern California opponents, UC Davis and Sacramento State. The Gaels take on the Aggies on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Hornets on Sunday at 1 p.m.Â
Saint Mary's is 7-0 this season and are one of just 10 schools who have won all of their matches. Head coach Adam Cooper's team is currently in the midst of two impressive streaks: a 31-match unbeaten streak and 26-match unbeaten streak at home. The Gaels' only non-win at home last season was their NCAA Tournament third round penalty kick loss to Stanford.Â
SMC has kept their high-octane offense rolling this season as they rank fifth in scoring offense after leading the nation last year. Saint Mary's has scored two or more goals in six of their seven contests and are outshooting their opposition 111-52 thus far.Â
Anders Engebretsen continues to remain in the national spotlight after adding a goal and an assist in the team's 2-1 win over Utah Valley. The senior is first in the country in points per game and has eight goals and three assists through seven matches.Â
ABOUT UC DAVIS
The Aggies are 4-3-1 this year and are most recently coming off a 3-1 win over San Jose State on the road. The win over the Spartans snapped a three-match losing streak, all to WCC opponents, as well as a scoreless drought over the same period.Â
Thursday's match against SMC will be the Aggies' fifth consecutive road contest with three more away games to follow afterwards. Nine of the team's 11 non-conference matches will be on the road this season.Â
UC Davis is a heavily defensive team with only six goals allowed through eight matches. The Aggies have ceded two or more goals just once this year and posted clean sheets in three of their first four matches to begin the season.Â
Offensively, UCD has scored nine goals from eight different players with no Aggie tallying multiple goals so far. Adam Mickelson currently leads the team with four points and 24 shots.Â
Saint Mary's and UC Davis have met every year over the past 10 seasons and the Aggies hold the all-time series record 6-5-4. The Gaels got the last laugh however with a 1-0 win in Davis last season.Â
ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets are 5-2-1 this season and have an impressive 3-1 road record thus far. Before coming to Moraga, Sac State will be tested in a challenging road match at No. 5 Indiana on Friday.Â
The West Coast Conference is no stranger to the Hornets as Saint Mary's will be the seventh WCC school they've played this year. Sac State holds a 3-1-2 record in those games and most recently defeated USF and tied Pacific last weekend.Â
The Hornets have tallied 15 goals through eight matches this year and are led by Oscar Govea and Benji Kikanovic who have each scored thrice. Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Curtis has seen the lion's share of time in net and has two shutouts in six starts.Â
The Gaels are 15-11-9 all-time against Sac State and have won in shutout fashion each of the last two years. The two teams have tied in six of their last nine meetings dating back to 2009.Â
