Mariia Kozyreva spearheaded Saint Mary's efforts on Day 2 of the tournament.
BERKELEY, Calif. — Saint Mary's continued play during the second day of the Cal Fall Invitational and Mariia Kozyreva headlined the team's efforts by advancing to the Blue Flight semifinals.
Kozyreva defeated both of her opponents on Saturday in 6-3, 6-3 fashion. She first faced Pacific's Dohee Lee in the Round of 16 before squaring off against Erin Richardson from Cal in the quarterfinals. The junior will begin singles play in the semifinals of her flight on Sunday morning.
Danielle McIntyre also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Gold Flight after edging out a 7-5, 7-6(6) win in the Round of 16 but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Kozyreva and McIntyre were narrowly defeated in the Blue Flights doubles quarterfinals 8-6 but bounced back for an 8-6 win of their own in the consolation bracket quarterfinals against Nevada. The tandem was forced to withdraw from the semifinals due to injury.
The final day of play wraps up on Sunday in Berkeley.
