SB | Gaels to Host Five Contests This Week

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (3-8) will host five games this week beginning with California on Wednesday at 2 p.m. for their home opener. 

The Gaels will also host the Saint Mary's Round Robin this weekend with a double header on Friday against Nevada at 12:30 p.m. and Utah Valley at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, Saint Mary's will take on Utah Valley again in a double header beginning at noon. 

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's picked up two victories in the Bulldog Classic last week as they defeated both Cal Poly and Fordham. In the contest against Cal Poly, Julia McCormack recorded her second home run of the season. Sofia Earle earned her second win of the year against Fordham by going four shutout innings as she struck out four and only allowed three hits.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA
The Bears currently own a 6-4 overall record as they are coming off back-to-back losses against Fresno State and Cal Poly in the Bulldog Classic which snapped their five-game winning streak. In the classic, California went 5-2 as they defeated their opposition in the first three contests. The Bears are led by Makena Smith who has tallied 14 hits so far this year and has posted a .400 batting average while Mikayla Coelho has collected 10 RBI's with 11 hits under her belt.

ABOUT NEVADA
The Wolfpack are 1-8 this year as they most recently competed in the Libby Matson Tournament where they secured one victory out of the four total games. Nevada defeated CSUN 7-1 for their first win of the season and their first victory over the Matadors in program history. Sierro Mello is at the forefront of the Wolfpacks' efforts as she holds a .467 batting average while recording five runs and 14 hits including three doubles, two triples and an RBI. 

ABOUT UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverines are going into this weekend's contests with an 8-2 record as they recently went 5-1 in the UNLV Tournament where they only dropped one game to the host, UNLV. Abby Doughty owns the best bat on the team as she has recorded 14 hits with a .452 batting average and a .528 on base percentage. In the circle, Devyn Cretz owns a 0.52 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched while tallying 20 strikeouts and allowing only eight walks.
