SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Nearing the conclusion of the 2019-20 regular season, the West Coast Conference has announced its annual All-Academic team, recognizing student-athletes for their achievements on and off the court. This season, Saint Mary's Women's Basketball has three individuals who have been honored by the WCC, meeting the requirements of both athletic and academic standards. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
Emily Codding – 3.53 GPA Business Administration
Despite missing the last six weeks due to injury, Emily Codding has landed on the All-Academic team in the WCC, qualifying with her 18 games played. In those 18 games, Codding was on her way to an All-WCC season, where she was averaging 14.7 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game, both in the top-five in the conference. Her shooting percentage of 53.1% from the field ranked her inside the top-three in the WCC, and she also knocked down 27 threes while leading the Gaels with 15 blocks.
Honorable Mention – Claire Ferguson and Sam Simons
Both Claire Ferguson (3.37, Biochemistry) and Sam Simons (3.39, JCLMSTE) were named as honorable mention All-Academic in the conference. Ferguson has been an important player in both a starting and reserve role this season, registering second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game. Ferguson has put up at least 10 rebounds in four different contests, while being second on the team in blocks. Simons has been leading the team since the Codding injury, pacing the Gaels with 15.7 points per game and being second in both total rebounds and three-point shots made. Seven times this season, Simons has put up at least 20 points and she has recorded a pair of double-doubles.
