MTEN | Gaels Open Hawaii Trip With Win over HPU

Box Score HONOLULU — Saint Mary's began their Hawaiian roadtrip with a win over one of the top Div. II programs in the country as they took down Hawaii Pacific 4-3. HPU was ranked No. 9 in their division coming into the week.

After dropping their first doubles match, the Gaels fought back with wins on Courts 1 and 2 to claim the doubles point. James Watt and Boris Reckow formed the team's top tandem and earned a 7-6(4) win before Karlo Divkovic and Matis Bot edged out a 7-5 win to secure the point.

Felipe Rincon would get the Gaels on the board in singles play as the No. 3 seed with a win over Ryohei Arai, 6-3, 6-2, and Abhishek Bastola would follow suit on Court 4 with the same score over his opponent. The Sharks were able to claw their way back into the match with singles wins on courts 2, 1, and 6 but senior Matis Bot would close the door for Saint Mary's with a three-set win to seal the victory, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Due to anticipated inclement weather, the Gaels will play their next match against Hawaii tomorrow at 10 a.m.
