MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (6-3) won their fourth straight match on Sunday and sixth of their past seven as they took down Fresno State 4-2 to sweep the weekend.
The Gaels took the doubles point beginning with Jordan Harris and Chloe Goyette breezing to a 6-1 win on court 2. SMC's No. 1 doubles tandem of Mariia Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre then defeated Azram/Lawson in 6-3 fashion to secure the doubles point.
Lene Mari Hovda and Liesl Pieters were up 4-3 in their match before it was called.
Hovda got the ball rolling in singles action with a straight set win, 6-1, 7-5 on court 3. McIntyre also posted a straight set victory as the No. 5 seed 6-2, 7-5 but the Bulldogs responded with two wins of their own to pull the match score to 3-2 in favor of the Gaels.
Kozyreva secured the match by defeating Shir Azran on court 1 in a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. It was the second time the Gaels' junior had clinched the match for Saint Mary's in the week after she also earned the fourth point versus Oregon.
The team's only match next week comes on Tuesday at No. 6 Stanford. First serve will be at 3 p.m.
