LAST TIME OUT
The Saint Mary's Women's Basketball team started the 2021-22 campaign with a 66-61 come-from-behind victory against the University of Nevada after a fourth quarter filled with big stops and big shots for the Gaels. A combo of former high school teammates at Carondelet High led the Gaels in scoring as
Ali Bamberger finished with 18 points and
Brianna Simonich had 15 points while going 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the win.
The other big, game-changing performance came from
Taycee Wedin as she scored all of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, coming in clutch when the Gaels needed it most. The senior hit two threes in the final frame, including one in transition. She made pull-up jumper that gave the Gaels the lead for good with just over three minutes remaining, along with sinking some critical free throws to seal the game.

ABOUT UC DAVIS
UC Davis opens the season ranked No. 9 in the nation according to the preseason CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll, just a few months after finishing the 2020-21 campaign ranked No. 13 in the country. The No. 9 ranking marks the highest for the program in that poll since the Aggies stood at No. 8 in the Feb. 27, 2018, poll, and has been ranked every week dating back to the final poll of the 2019-20 season.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
UC Davis narrowly leads the all-time series with Saint Mary's 14-13. The Gaels won the previous meeting 83-74 in Moraga in 2019. UC Davis is 7-6 at home against Saint Mary's, winning the last two meetings at the University Credit Union Center -- the last a 76-74 triumph on Morgan Bertsch's buzzer-beater in 2018. The Gaels last win on the Aggies' home floor came in 2014 with a 57-55 victory. Five of the last six meetings have been decided by 10 points or less, with three of those by a single bucket.
