SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Saint Mary's (1-5) went down to the very last match with Sacramento State on Friday but ultimately came up short in a 4-3 road loss.
The Gaels had a good start to the match by taking the doubles point. Matis Bot and Caelan Potts teamed up for a 6-3 win on Court 2 before James Watt and Boris Reckow sealed the deal with a close 7-6 (4) win as the No. 2 tandem.
The Hornets soon tied up the contest and took the lead by getting two quick wins in singles. Graduate student Fabian Roensdorf then evened things up on Court 3 for SMC with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 performance against Michael Vizcarra.
Sac State took another close match on the No. 1 court to move ahead 3-2 but Karlo Divkovic powered past his opponent 6-4, 6-1 as the Gaels' No. 5 player to tie the score once again. On Court 6, the Hornets' Jan Silva came out on top over Matis Bot to secure the win.

Saint Mary's returns to Sacramento next week for the Golden Gate Invitational hosted by Sac State. The action begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
