LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's Men's Soccer improved to 5-3 on the season after taking advantage of a penalty shot in the 72nd minute at Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon. Sebastian Schacht took the penalty kick and buried it in the upper right corner of the net for the game-winning goal in the Gaels 1-0 win.

ABOUT CSUN
Despite the Matadors 1-7 record, they are coming off their first victory of the season in an overtime win over Portland University. Giovanni Aguilar scored the game winner in the extra frame, and he and Omar Grey were both selected to the Big West Preseason All-Conference Team. CSUN was picked to finish in the middle of the pack of the Big West and it took a late comeback by #11 Loyola Marymount to defeat the Matadors 2-1, so the they may still have their best soccer ahead of them.

The Gaels are 3-5 all time against the Matadors but won the most recent meeting 2-1 at Northridge in 2017.

ABOUT STANFORD
The Cardinal were ranked as high as #8 in the country this season but have slipped out of the top 25 at 2-3-1 at the time of this article posting. They still have senior Zach Ryan who was the 2020 Pac-12 Player of the Year and led the team in goals in each of the last three seasons. He was also on the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy given to the National Player of the Year. The Cardinal have won six of the last seven Pac-12 titles and were picked to repeat in the conference's preseason poll.

The Gaels are looking for their first win since 1995 against the Cardinal, as they are 0-3-2 all time against Stanford. However, the two ties come from their most recent meetings with a 2-2 draw in 2016 and scoreless tie in 2018.
