MORAGA, Calif. – The Korth Tennis Complex at Saint Mary's College has received a major seating upgrade with the installation of 82 new stadium seats.
The addition of the stadium seats was made possible by generous donations from Saint Mary's Tennis supporters and will create a whole new atmosphere for SMC Men's and Women's Tennis matches, especially at courts four, five, and six at the front of the complex.
New Head Women's Tennis Head Coach, Katharina Winterhalter, is a former assistant and associate head coach at Saint Mary's from 2008-2014, and is incredibly grateful for the support that has led to the facility upgrade.
"We're very excited about the addition of the new, upgraded spectator seating to our facility," Winterhalter. "It will enhance the spectator and student-athlete experience tremendously. We would like to thank everyone involved with the project for all their work to make this happen and a special thank you to the Weekley and Alipaz-Maguy family for their generous contributions."
The new section of seating features three rows of elevated seats, and a front row at court level with ADA companion seating available. The seats are 18" from the ground with a 32" tall seat back.
SMC Tennis players are eager to see what the new addition provides to the match-day environment, which is already very lively when the Gaels are in action.
"Nothing gets the guys more excited than a great atmosphere at home games," Senior Caelan Potts of the men's tennis team said. "This new seating provides us greater capacity for doing so, and I want to give a big thank you to the Saint Mary's Community."
"I'm really excited about the addition of the seats," Grad Student James Watt of the men's team added. "I hope it enhances the students' and public's experience to see what college tennis is all about. We'll be sure to put on a show."
The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis team will be the first Gaels squad to host a tournament with the new seats in use, playing the SMC Fall Invite from October 28-30. The men's team's first home tournament will start up dual-match play when they take on Holy Names University on January 21, 2023.
