WTEN | Gaels Take on USD in First Round of WCC Tourney

OJAI, Calif. – Saint Mary's Women's Tennis will begin play in the West Coast Conference Tournament at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
The Gaels first round opponent will be the University of San Diego, who come in as the three seed while SMC are the number six seed for the tournament.
San Diego finished the regular season 14-5 overall and 5-2 in WCC play while the Gaels were 10-9 overall and 5-4 in conference matches. The Gaels as a whole finished dual-match play 56-50 overall and 30-23 in WCC dual matches.
The Toreros won 6-1 In the previous meeting between these two teams back on March 12 at the Hogan Center. San Diego was 8-3 at the time of their regular season meeting and SMC was just 3-6 before Saint Mary's finished the season going 7-3 after the San Diego match up.
SMC got the doubles point for a 1-0 lead in the previous meeting as the No. 44 doubles combo in the nation at the time of Jordan Harris and Mariia Kozyreva topped Claudia De Las Heras and Elizabeth Goldsmith 6-3 and Jocelyn Massey and Julia Ronney defeated Solymar Colling and Jordyn McBride 6-3. But the Toreros would take the singles matches, with Massey battling De Las Heras to three sets.
