THE DETAILS
Portland Distance Carnival

Eldon Fix Track – Portland, Ore.
READY TO RACE
While the men's side are not traveling to Portland, nine Gaels from the women's team are making the trip to try and leave a mark on their 2023 track season.
Maddie Fletcher will race the short events, the 200m and 400m to be specific. Molly Dreher and Dani Rowlinson will take on the 1500, as they'll both try and replicate their races from the past few race weekends.
Klara Frih and Penelopea Gordon will race the 800m. Gordon, who's coming off a record-setting weekend at the West Coast Last Chance, will look to drop even more time in Portland.
The remaining four Gaels will battle the 5000m, as Anna Ranieri, Kaylee Barnes, Sofia Cuevas, and Emily Field will represent SMC in the longest event of the meet.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels were racing new personal bests right and left last weekend, as the teams competed at the West Coast Last Chance Meet.
Action got underway with the 4x100 relay, and the SMC women were the only team featured. A relay consisting of McKenna Burrows, Natalia Nathan, Emily Quinby, and Maddie Dwyer raced a 55.03, setting a SMC record in the process.
One of the best events of the day for SMC was the 800m, as the women's side set the pace with some speedy times.
No one was quicker than Penelopea Gordon, who won the event in a time of 2:08.44. Gordon's previous best was a 2:13.26 which she set just a few weeks ago at the Beach Invite. Gordon continues to tear up the track as a freshman, as her 2:08.44 puts her second fastest all-time in SMC, and the fastest 800m by a freshman as well.
Klara Frih ran a solid race as well, finishing a few spots behind Gordon in 3rd with a 2:13.03.
On the men's side, Blaine Reynolds also came away with the Gaels victory, as he won in the event in personal best time of 1:53.85. His previous best, a 1:55.44, came back in March at the West Coast Twilight.
The personal bests kept coming, as Bryan Cromartie ran a 2:06.48, dropping two seconds from the Portland Indoor One earlier in the season.
After a solid display in the 800m, SMC tried to replicate in the next event, the 200m.
Jaden DeSouza led the way, just sneaking under her previous personal best as she finished 5th with a 26.22. DeSouza's time was also the quickest time in SMC history in the event.
The marque event of the afternoon was the 5000m, as a host of Gaels from both sides set personal bests in the longest event of the day.
For the women, Anna Ranieri led the way, claiming 3rd place with a 20 second improvement to run a 17:52.66.
Sofia Cuevas clinched a 6th place finish as she just finished under her previous best with a 18:10.45.
On the men's side, a 1-2 finish was the highlight of the day, as Cayden Hein and Richard McLain took the top two spots. Hein smashed her personal best by over 10 seconds to run a 14:56.76, while McLain was just a few seconds back as he ran a 15:10.39.
Aidan Donovan joined Hein with a 10 second drop, as he ran a 15:33.67 to finish 7th.
The day's action concluded with a few relays, as the Gaels made up two of the three relays' teams in the women's 4x400. The A relay consisting of Maddie Fletcher, Jaden DeSouza, Klara Frih, and Penelopa Gordon led the way with a 3:53.21 and SMC record.
