FRESNO, Calif. – Saint Mary's Baseball lost the first of a two-game set with Fresno State 17-6 on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs struck in the first with a three-run homer, but the Gaels
Jared Mettam answered right back with a two-run shot of his own (6) that scored
Nathan Chong to cut it to a 3-2 game.

But Fresno State responded with three runs in the bottom of the second and an eight-run outburst in the third. SMC would get an RBI single from
Christian Almanza in the third inning and a sac fly from
Dalton Mashore in the fourth, but the Bulldogs were up 14-4 at that point.

Jared Mettam hit his second two-run homer (7) of the game in the sixth inning with
Blake McDonald on base to make it 14-6. The Bulldogs would cap off the scoring with three more runs in the seventh, including a two-run, home run.
