FRESNO, Calif. – Saint Mary's Baseball played their final regular season game on Friday night in a non-conference match up at Fresno State, losing 12-0 to the Bulldogs.
Â
The Gaels were playing out the string with their WCC bye coming in the final weekend of the season and the conference tournament not starting until this coming Wednesday, and they didn't play their sharpest game of the season.
Â
They committed five errors and had just three hits, with catcher
Blake McDonald accounting for two of them with a pair of doubles. Of the Gaels five pitchers on the night, only John Damazonio didn't allow a run, and that was in the eighth inning.
Â
Saint Mary's threatened in the second with a walk by
Nathan Chong and an error that allowed McDonald to reach, but confusion on if
Jared Mettam's fly out to left was actually caught, led to McDonald getting doubled up to end the inning.
Â
They'd put a pair on in the fifth as well, but McDonald was thrown out at third on a Mettam base hit and a
Gavin Napier fly out ended the frame.
