GAELS OUTLOOK
Gaels Suffer First Shutout of 2025 Season in Corvallis…
Saint Mary's had continued to prove to be a tough matchup game in and game out this season, but ran into a talented Oregon State Beavers team who gave them their first shutout of the season. The 19th ranked Beavers scored a pair of goals in the first half and then had the nail in the coffin in the 89th minute to seal the three-goal victory.
Saint Mary's will continue to seek their first win in what has been a unique 2025 season as they return to Moraga for back-to-back home games against Pacific and Santa Clara.
Three Ranked Opponents Down, Two To Go…
Despite a winless campaign thus far, Saint Mary's has competed in one of their tougher schedules in recent memory which has featured three ranked opponents all inside the top-20. The Gaels scored first and held on to a 1-1 draw with #19 Kansas City back in August and then suffered defeats to 8th ranked Stanford and 19th ranked Oregon State.
Their match against the then 8th ranked Cardinal could've looked a lot different as the Gaels went up 1-0 in the 18th minute but an SMC red card flipped the game as Stanford went on to score two more goals to win 3-1. The Gaels season still has a top-10 team in Portland and the 2024 WCC champs in San Diego who are currently 12th in the nation.
Series History…
Saint Mary's has had the upper hand in their series history with the Pacific Tigers, owning a record of 7-2-1 over their last ten meetings. The Gaels had a three-match winning streak over the Tigers going into last season but Pacific would net three goals in the season finale for their first win over Saint Mary's since 2020.
All-time, Saint Mary's is 10-7-3 against Pacific dating back to 1978. The Tigers were members of the WCC in the early 70's but spent the bulk of the 2000's in the Big West Conference before returning to the WCC again in 2013.
ABOUT THE TIGERS (2-8-0, 0-2-0)
Pacific enters the week with a 2-8 overall record and are 0-2 in conference play with defeats to LMU and Seattle U. The Tigers two wins came in their home opener against Utah Tech and later in the non-conference slate against UC Davis, 2-1. It's been a tough start to the season though as the Tigers have lost three consecutive games for the second time this season.
Pacific has struggled to put the ball in the back of the net, scoring just nine goals while allowing a conference high 25 to their opponents this season. Luca Baltzer leads the team with two goals and also has an assist as a two-year senior from Germany. The Tigers were picked to finish ninth in this year's preseason poll, one spot ahead of Gonzaga. Adam Reeves enters his seventh season leading the program.
Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 PM. Tickets can be bought online at smcgaels.com/tickets and you can catch all the action live on ESPN+. Be sure to follow your Gaels on Facebook, Instagram, and X to get all the latest Saint Mary's athletics updates and information.
