WTEN | Cougars Down Gaels to End Three-Match Win Streak

PULLMAN, Wash. - Saint Mary's headed north for a two-match road trip to take on #52 Washington State and Gonzaga. They fell to the Cougars on Thursday 4-0 to end their three-match win streak and record their first loss of conference play.
The Gaels top doubles team in Iman Khan and Olivia Rook fell 6-3 to the 41st ranked pair in Eva Alvarez Sande and Maxine Murphy, clinching the doubles point for the Cougars. Stefanie Silva and Juliette Daries led 4-1 in their doubles match but were unable to finish before Sande and Murphy clinched the point.
In singles play, Daries went down in a hard fought three-set match which needed a tiebreaker in the third set to secure the fourth point of the day for Washington State. In earlier matches, Eva Alvarez Sande defeated Iman Khan, 6-0 6-1, and MiaAngelina Ruja fell in straight sets to Elyse Tse, 6-3 6-4. Madison Weekley, Stefanie Silva and Olivia Rook all forced a third set to prolong the match but the Cougars eventually prevailed for the 4-0 victory, their fifth shutout of the season.
