PORTLAND, Ore. – Saint Mary's saw their two-game win streak come to an end Thursday night as they fell to the Portland Pilots 68-42, giving the Pilots the regular season sweep. The Gaels found themselves down just two points after an efficient first quarter, but Portland went on to hit ten three-pointers and shot 56% from the field to secure the 26-point victory.
Abigail Shoff reached double-figures for the fifth time out of her last six games, leading the Gaels with 14 points and eight made free throws. Addi Wedin added six points in the starting lineup while Melesungu Afeaki had five points on 50% shooting in her 18 minutes off the bench. Saint Mary's remains in the meat of the conference standings and will look to get back in the win column next week as they host LMU on Thursday, February 5th.
FIRST HALF SMC 20-37 POR
Saint Mary's had a productive opening quarter, shooting 50% from the field and hitting seven shots to trail by just two points. Despite coming into the night as the best perimeter defending team in the WCC, the Gaels allowed five three-pointers from the Pilots accounting for all five made field goals in the period. Along with a pair of made free throws, Portland finished the first quarter with 17 points to take a two-point lead into the break.
Portland made their separation in the second quarter with elite play on both ends of the floor. They finished 8-for-11 in the period while holding the Gaels to without a field goal and just five points for their season low in a quarter this season. The Gaels were 0-for-12 from the field with all five points coming from the free throw line thanks to Abigail Shoff. Portland hit a couple more threes to end the first half with seven deep balls and take a 17-point lead into the half.

Portland maintained their efficiency in the second half as they ended the night shooting 57% from the field and a season high 63% from three-point range. Their ten made three's went down as the second highest total this season while Saint Mary's was 0-for-11 from beyond the arc and finished with 42 points, their second lowest total of the 2025-26 season.
