SB | Gaels Avenge Loss to Louisiana, Fall to Host No. 15 Texas A&M on Day Two of the TAMU Invitational
3/1/2026 12:29:00 AM | Softball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Gaels picked up another quality win on the year against a red-hot Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns side on Saturday, 5-2, but fell to 15th ranked Texas A&M in the night cap at Davis Diamond, 12-1. Saint Mary's now sits at 2-2 in the TAMU Invitational, with a chance to pull above 0.500 in the event with the opening game of day three against Kennesaw State.
Hannah Ferguson logged hits in both games, while Braxton Brown and Taylor Lane both left the yard in game one of today's twin-bill. Lane also logged half of the Gaels RBI for the day, driving in three of the total six Gaels runs on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: Saint Mary's 5, Louisiana 2
Saint Mary's avenged last night's defeat at the hands of the Ragin' Cajuns with a solid 5-2 victory in today's opener. Braxton Brown started the scoring for the Gaels with her team-high fourth home run off the top of the scoreboard in left field in the second, and Odhi Vasquez tossed three scoreless innings to start the contest off on the right foot.
A solo home run briefly swung momentum in the direction of Louisiana, but that was quickly curtailed when Brown lifted a double to the left center field gap, scoring Hannah Ferguson to regain the lead. Taylor Lan drove in three more insurance runs for the Gaels, two on a two out, two strike, two rbi single in the fourth, and another via her first home run of the 2026 campaign. Vasquez capped off the complete game victory with a scoreless seventh, as the Gaels moved to 2-1 through their first three games in College Station.
GAME TWO: No. 15 Texas A&M 12, Saint Mary's 1 (5 Inn.)
Through the first two innings, the Gaels found themselves locked in a tight one with the free swinging Aggies, down just 1-0. The Aggies opened things up with eight runs in the third inning, and while the Gaels punched back with a Hannah Ferguson triple and an RBI groundout from Sam Buckley, that was all the offense could muster against the 15th ranked team in the country.
