CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Saint Mary's golf team overcame a rocky start in Tuesday's final round to finish alone in fourth place in the 16 team field at the 2026 R.E.L. Invitational down in San Diego. The Gaels shot a combined 3-under-par over their final three holes to swap places with host San Diego State and earned the solo fourth place finish at 14-under.
Aidan Lee and Inigo Izuzquiza were the low finishers of the day, each carding a 69 (-3), with both golfers finishing inside the top-20 individually. Sam Baumuller was the other counting score in red figures for Saint Mary's at 1-under-par, while Avery Lazarski was just 1-over-par in his final round.
The Gaels were fairly clean to start their round on Tuesday morning, sitting at 1-under-par through the front nine. They would make their move on the way in though, recording nine birdies and an eagle from their four counting scores, propelling them to 6-under-par on the day. Lee and Lazarski birdied the par-five 16th and Izuzquiza eagled on the short par-four 17th to contribute to a strong finish over the final three holes.
San Diego State had a three-shot lead going into the final hole but four bogeys from their counting scores would drop them to fifth place and allow the Gaels to swap places, finishing above the 28th ranked Aztecs and 47th Colorado.
Redshirt sophomore James Williams competed in his seventh event of the 2025-26 season as an individual for Saint Mary's. His low round of the week came in the opener on Monday with a 76 (+4). Baumuller recorded his best finish of the 2025-26 season in a tie for seventh place as the team's low finisher at 5-under-par. Lee jumped eleven spots with his final round 69 (-3) to sit in a tie for 12th while Lazarski finished t-18th at 1-under-par. Full tournament results can be found HERE.
