PUTTING THE "W" IN WCC
Dating back to last season, the Gaels have now won five consecutive WCC series. The back-to-back WCC Champs have now gone 26-11 in conference play dating back to the 2024 campaign, with series wins against all but one WCC foe. This season, the Gaels are off to a 5-1 start in conference play, and are hitting .295 as a team, while allowing opponents to hit just .211, showing off their balance between offense and pitching/defense. Alex Cutonilli has led the Gaels offense in conference play with a .450 average, including a pair of doubles and three RBI, while Odhi Vasquez has gone 3-1 with an 0.95 ERA with 25 strikeouts to just eight walks over 22 innings, moving her career record against WCC schools to 15-8.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
The UC Davis Aggies make their first trip to Moraga since 2023, but are not unfamiliar to the Gaels, having matched up five times over the past three seasons in Davis, with Saint Mary's taking three of those five victories. Head Coach Erin Thorpe is now in year 12 at the helm, and has her team back above 20 wins, after going just 15-36 a year ago. The Aggies will take on CSUN for a Monday doubleheader before heading to Moraga on Tuesday. Alyssa Dethlefson (.308 15 XBH 27 RBI 23 SB) and Sydney Polli (.348 .908 OPS) lead the offense, while Caroline Grimes (11-11 3.32 ERA 91 Ks) leads the pitching staff. These two teams squared off in Davis on opening weekend, with the Aggies besting the Gaels 3-2. Grimes picked up the complete game victory, while catcher Naomi Kalanetra went 2-3, driving in two runs, and scoring the third. That brought the Aggies record to 46-19 all-time against Saint Mary's.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
In their second and final year as affiliate members of the WCC, Oregon State is off to a 5-4 start in conference play with a pair of series wins over San Diego and Pacific, sandwiching a series loss to Santa Clara. That runs the Beavers record to 17-26 overall under the direction of 14th year head coach Laura Berg. Junior Jaeya Butler is putting up WCC Player of the Year like numbers, batting .388 with 33 of her 57 hits being of the extra base variety, including a WCC best 13 doubles, 19 home runs and 49 RBI. The pitching, however, has struggled, with a staff ERA of 4.97 and an opponents batting average of .322. The Gaels are just 8-21 all-time against Oregon State, but have won each of their last four meetings.
