MORAGA, Calif. – The epic 2026 Saint Mary's beach volleyball regular season will come to a close this weekend, as the Gaels will play host to Bay Area West Coast Conference rival San Francisco at Shaw and Knudsen Courts on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. This year's Gael squad has already smashed the program wins record, sitting at 24-10, and will look to add one more to that tally to build momentum heading into the WCC Tournament.
The Gaels are coming off of a 3-1 weekend in Stockton, where they battled the elements and earned hard-fought victories over Cal State Bakersfield, Pacific and San Jose State, while falling to UC Davis. Hannah Couch and Isla Johnson paired back together for the first time since February 27, and moved to 7-1 together this season with wins over UC Davis and San Jose State at the threes. Zoe Joshua also picked up her first two wins at the ones, playing alongside Genevieve Bane.
As Saturday will be the final home match of the year for the Gaels, it will be celebrated as Senior Day, honoring the seven Gaels who will be playing their final matches at Shaw and Knudsen Courts. In that group are first year Gaels Barett Nolan and Alisia Silverthorn, as well as four year Gaels Clarissa Klein, Hannah Glick, Genevieve Bane, Angelina Bour and Hannah Couch. This group of seven have combined to win 306 matches in their times as Gaels, with Bour checking in fifth place all-time with 69 wins, and Couch one shy of tying the program record, currently with 82.
The San Francisco Dons will enter their final regular season week with an 11-16 record, and are 2-7 in true road contests. Head Coach Emily Cook was elevated to the role from associate head coach in the offseason, and has already matched the program's highest win total since 2019. Towards the top of the Dons lineup sit their best two pairs, Kaydence Stormes/McKenna Towne (11-6) at the ones and Branson Lennon/Rylie Reeves (14-10) at the threes. The Gaels handled business, however, against those pairs and the rest of the Dons at the West Coast Challenge on March 27, winning 5-0. All-time, the Gaels lead the series 31-3, including a perfect 6-0 at home.
