SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Saint Mary's first baseman Makoa Sniffen was ultra efficient for the Gaels this week as he led them to a 3-1 week including a big West Coast Conference series win over San Diego to be named this week's WCC Player of the Week.
This is Sniffen's second weekly award this season as he finished the four-game week 11-for-18 with six runs scored, three doubles, two triples and his ninth home run of the season. Sniffen had multiple hits in all four games and leads the Gaels with 21 multi-hit games this season. The Archbishop Mitty product went 3-for-5 in the WCC series opener against San Diego including a bomb of a home run over the right center wall at Fowler Park for his ninth of the season. He followed up his three-hit performance Friday night with a four-hit game on Saturday, his third four-hit game of the season.
Sniffen now leads the WCC with 70 total hits this season and ranks second with a .389 batting average. Saint Mary's sits at 10-8 in WCC play alone in fourth place, just a game back of San Francisco and Pepperdine who are tied for second at 11-7. The Gaels will host Seattle U this weekend for another crucial conference series with game one taking place on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Catch all the action live on ESPN+ and tickets can be bought online at smcgaels.com/tickets.
