COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team finished day one of the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate in a tie for third place at 2-under-par. Play was suspended due to darkness as the Gaels and the majority of the field got through 33 holes on Monday.
Saint Mary's was just one stroke out of first place after round one, posting a 5-under opening round led by redshirt freshman Sam Baumuller. Baumuller carded a 66 (-4) to lead the charge including a team high five birdies and just one bogey. He also had a stretch of three birdies from holes 5-7 on the front nine that helped catapult the Gaels into the top two. Aidan Lee and Mitchell Hoey were also in red figures for Saint Mary's, Lee carding a 68 (-2) while Hoey had three birdies and finished 1-under-par.
Saint Mary's has three holes left to play in round two but are currently sitting at 3-over-par in a tie for third place along with Iowa State. Despite the over par round, redshirt junior Inigo Izuzquiza bounced back for a three-under round through 17 holes. Izuzquiza was the drop score in round one at 3-over but will have one hole left to play to put the Gaels back into second place and capoff a solid second round.
The tournament field is set to tee off at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to finish off the second round with the third and final round to follow. Live scoring can be found HERE and tournament leaderboards and recaps can be found at smcgaels.com.
