Heather Dittmer enters her first fall season with the Gaels after joining the coaching staff as an assistant coach in the spring of 2010. Heather's on field responsibilities will include working with the midfielders and brings a wealth of experience both as a coach and player. She will also serve as the recruiting coordinator for the Gaels.
Dittmer comes to SMC after serving as an assistant coach with the UNC Charlotte women's soccer team from 2008-10. Dittmer joined the 49ers staff after playing two years with the Women's Professional Soccer League's Brevard Country Cocoa Expos from 2006-07. In 2006, she led the Expos in goals while leading them to a third-place finish in their inaugural season in the WPSL. While playing for the Expos, she was camp director for the Cocoa Expos Sport Center for two summers. She played for the W-Leagues Charlotte Lady Eagles in 2008.
The Marietta, GA native attended Western Carolina, where she finished her career with 15 goals, which is tied for the fourth highest in the program's history. She also finished fifth in the program's history with 39 career points. As a junior, she earned First Team All-Southern Conference and North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State honors. As a sophomore, she was the first player in Western Carolina history to earn Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week honors.
Dittmer graduated from Western Carolina with a degree in Business Administration and Spanish in 2008. She was a member of the TIAA-CREF academic team, as well as the Southern Conference honor roll.
