Saint Mary's found success on both the singles and doubles courts on the first day of the Cal Invite.
BERKELEY, Calif. — In their first day of fall season play, Saint Mary's had a great day at the Cal Invite, picking up several wins in both singles and doubles play.
THE DRAW
On the doubles courts, Saint Mary's picked up wins in all three of their matches. In the Blue Flight bracket, Clementine Clement and Liesl Pieters teamed up to take down the duo of Yamada/Lagarde from UC Santa Barbara in a close 8-7 match. Similarly, Chloe Goyette and Mariia Kozyreva sneaked past Santa Clara's Schroer/Pothoff with an 8-7 score. In the doubles Gold Flight bracket, Jordan Harris and Aubane Ville rolled past Dario/Husrefovic of Fresno State at 8-2.
The Gaels continued to roll on the singles court with five wins of a possible six in the first round. Clement, Goyette, Ville, and Harris all advanced to the second round with straight set wins while Kozyreva battle back after dropping her first set to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
In the next round, Clement, Kozyreva, and Ville once again defeated their opponents, all in straight set fashion.
