Mariia Kozyreva finished in second place out of 128 competitors at the tournament.
STANFORD, Calif. — Mariia Kozyreva finished her incredible run at the ITA Regionals by finishing runner-up in the singles championship. Her second place finish came out of a field of 128 competitors and the junior ended the tournament 6-1 in singles play.
No. 68 Kozyreva matched up with Stanford's No. 6 Michaela Gordon in the finals and battle hard but ultimately fell, 6-2, 7-5. With her performance, Kozyreva will qualify for the ITA Fall National Championships which take place in two weeks.
"Masha showed how much she has improved since the end of the last season," said Gaels' head coach Simon Harston. "Today wasn't her day but she is absolutely heading in the right direction with her game. We're excited for her to get another chance to play in the Fall National Championships next month."
The Fall National Championships begin on Nov. 6 and will be played in Newport Beach, Calif.
