SB | Gaels Drop Two to UVU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (4-12) put up a hard fight on Saturday in the final day of the Saint Mary's Round Robin but ultimately fell in both contests against Utah Valley.

Game 1
UVU 16, Saint Mary's 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
Utah Valley took an early lead in the contest as they put up five runs through the first two innings before Saint Mary's responded with one in the bottom of the second. The Gaels secured their first run after Nikki Alexander reached on a fielder's choice to score Halle Sullivan. In the same inning, Sullivan launched a triple for SMC's first hit of the game.

The Wolverines would continue to add runs to the board while the Gaels managed to put one more up in the bottom of the fourth. Indya Smith singled to left center to bring home Jordyn Oliver for Saint Mary's second and final run of the contest.

SMC tallied three hits in the game including two RBI's from Alexander and Smith. In the circle, Vanessa Richie pitched for 1.2 innings and collected two strikeouts.

Game 2
UVU 8, Saint Mary's 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's had a late start in the second game of the doubleheader as they didn't score until the sixth inning where they added four runs to the board after UVU had already put up seven. In the inning, the Gaels recorded four hits including a single from Maddie Gallagher who singled through the right side to score Jayda Alaan. Julia McCormack would score the second run which was immediately followed with a two run single from Alex Casas to bring home Oliver and Waters.

The Gaels recorded seven hits and were led by Casas who went 2-for-3 and picked up two RBI's in the contest. Eileen Perez and Kayla Scott each pitched in the circle against the Wolverines while Scott tallied two strikeouts.
