SAN FRANCISCO — Saint Mary's Baseball heads across the Bay to take on the University of San Francisco this weekend in a three-game WCC series, but the matchups don't stop there. After playing three at the home of the Dons, Saint Mary's and San Francisco will head back to Moraga to play a fourth game on Monday at Louis Guisto Field, in a non-conference game. Monday's game will be the final meeting between the Gaels and Dons during the 2021 season.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels were on the road at BYU last weekend and got swept in the three-game series. Thursday's series opener was not particularly close, with the Gaels dropping the game 12-0, but the final two games of the series could have gone either way. Saint Mary's fell victim of defeat in 4-2 and 4-3 finals on Friday and Saturday, despite a big rally in the ninth inning of the final game on Saturday. While the offense went flat across the three games, the Gaels did receive strong pitching performances from
Sam Bower and
Ky Bush on Friday and Saturday, as both kept the Gaels in contention for a win.
Â
ABOUT THE DONS
San Francisco played a rough non-conference schedule that saw them play well under the .500-mark, but they have since rebounded to be one of the better teams in the WCC. Despite their 18-20 overall record, the Dons are 13-8 and in position for one of the top spots in the conference. They have just two series losses on the season: their WCC-opener against Pepperdine (dropped two of three), and a series against San Diego in April (dropped two of three). This team has several players who can hit the long-ball, as 14 different Dons have left the yard this season, and they are also fast, with 60 stolen bases to lead the conference.
Â
PREVIOUS MEETING
These teams met once for a midweek contest on March 16, and the Gaels were victorious on their home field with a final of 7-5. The bottom of the order was the culprit for success, as
Kyle Velazquez drove home three runs for Saint Mary's, and while
Nick Mistone had a productive game as well. Five Gaels pitchers were able to help secure the win, with
Liam Steigerwald winning and
Jackson Hulett picking up a save, despite a pair of runs scoring in the ninth inning for the Dons. It was the final non-conference game for both teams before the start of WCC play.
