SAN MATEO, Calif. – The Saint Mary's Women's Soccer Team had four players receive all-conference honors, with Tessa Salvestrin being named to the All-Conference Second Team as well as the All-Freshman Team.
Emma Barthel, Nayeli Diaz, and Taylor Poland were recognized by the conference as well, as they were included in the honorable mentions list.
Salvestrin made her mark in her first season with the Gaels, a constant force to be reckoned with in attack. Starting in 14 of 18 games this season, the freshman from St. Helena, California finished with three goals, six assists, and 12 total points, which ranks her second on the team in all three categories.
She made an instant impact from the second she stepped on the field in a Saint Mary's uniform, scoring and assisting in her collegiate debut against Cal Poly. A creator and a scorer, Salvestrin will continue to be a key piece in the Gaels offense for seasons to come.
Emma Barthel's inclusion in the honorable mention's list caps off the junior's best season for the Gaels, as she pulled the strings in the midfield for Saint Mary's all season long.
Starting all 18 games, she tallied the third most minutes for the Gaels this season with 1527, trailing only Jessie Hawes and Taylor Poland.
Nayeli Diaz capped off her fantastic junior season with her first honorable mention inclusion as well, leading the team in goals, assists, and points. The junior from Hacienda Heights, California finished with six goals, four assists, and 16 points, starting in all 18 games for the Gaels.
Her best performance of the season came against UC San Diego, where she tallied her first career hat trick, notching an assist as well in the Gaels 4-2 win over the Tritons.
Taylor Poland once again finds herself on the WCC honors list after being named the WCC Goalkeeper of the Year just two short seasons ago. The junior keeper had another stellar season for Saint Mary's, playing in all 18 games and recording six shutouts.
She also managed to grab her first assist as a Gael, coming in back in August in the Gaels 3-0 romp of San Jose State.
