

Saint Mary's resumes annual invitational for first time since 2022

MONTEREY, Calif. – For the first time since 2022, Saint Mary's will host their fall invitational at Bayonet Golf Club starting on Monday, October 20th. The Gaels were co-hosts at Bayonet a year prior at the Leadership and Golf Collegiate but will resume the Saint Mary's Invitational this season following a third-place finish at the Jim DeLapa last month.
Head coach Scott Hardy will take the same starting lineup into the week along with individuals James Williams and Matthew Almajano. Round one tee's off at 8:20 AM on Monday with the Gaels first group teeing off at 9:20 AM. Saint Mary's will look to capture the tournament title of their own event for the first time since 2012. The top three teams heading into the final round all posted the lowest team scores of the day as Saint Mary's was able to hold steady in third place for their best finish of the fall season at the Jim DeLaapa Collegiate. The Gaels put up a solid 275 (-5) on Monday but San Jose State jumped two spots on the leaderboard with a round of 11-under-par to steal the team trophy. Nonetheless, Saint Mary's finished in red figures in two of their three rounds and got several standout performances to earn them their first top-three finish of the season.
Sam Baumuller and Mitchell Hoey finished t-10th at two-under-par to lead the way. All five golfers in the team's starting lineup finished inside the top-25 after the three rounds of competition, helping develop some good momentum into the Saint Mary's Invitational
