MTEN | Gaels Split Two-Match Homestand with Win over Portland State

MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's won their fourth match of the spring season over the weekend after defeating Portland State 4-2 on Saturday, February 7th. The Gaels fell narrowly to Sacramento State the following day, 4-3, to conclude their two-match homestand.
The Gaels had several standout performances over the two matches including a perfect singles weekend from true freshmen Juan Pedro Etchecoin and Sam Simmonds. Both players went a combined 4-0 on the weekend and were the only two players to win their duals on Sunday against the Hornets. Simmonds improved to 4-0 in singles play on the season to lead Saint Mary's through seven matches.
In doubles action, Finn Dyer and Thibaud Maxant continued their connection as they won both doubles matches against Portland State and Sacramento State. The Gaels also took the doubles point in both matches and have now secured the doubles point in five of their seven matches this season. As a pair, Maxant and Dyer are a combined 4-2 this season for the most doubles wins on the team.
