PLAUDITS FOR PRESCOTT
Junior catcher Averie Prescott put together the best offensive week of her Gael career last week, and looks to have secured the number one catching role, following an injury to sophomore Dominique Oliveira. Prescott had just seven hits to her name entering last week, but logged nine over six games in 16 ABs. She recorded her first four RBI and scored her first three runs of the season last week, and now is batting .345 for the season for Saint Mary's (14-10).
TRAN-TASTIC
Another Gael who formally introduced herself to the Saint Mary's faithful this past week was true freshman Lauren Tran. The local product out of Pleasanton started all four games of the Silicon Valley Invitational, registering her first three collegiate hits with three runs scored and her first two RBI. Tran is one of three true freshmen to start multiple games this year for the Gaels, joining teammates Madeline Haun and Janessa Parras.
CHECK THE RPI
This week marks the first RPI rankings in the 2026 season, with the Gaels checking in at 109th out of 308 DI programs. The Gaels finished last season ranked 74th in the RPI, and were ranked as high as 66th, a program record. Saint Mary's will have plenty of time to climb higher, with four more quad one games on the schedule. Currently, they boast four wins against teams ranked higher than them in the RPI: #52 San Diego State, #63 Louisiana, #79 Fresno State and #106 Long Beach State.
ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES
The Montana Grizzlies (4-14) will look to both end its eight-game losing streak and be the first team to beat the Gaels at home this year in the upcoming three-game set at Cottrell Field. Second-year head coach Stef Ewing is already halfway to her win total from her debut season with the Grizzlies after tallying 136 wins and going to three NCAA Tournaments in five seasons leading DII Cal State San Marcos. Despite the slow start, the Grizzlies have had a pair of offensive standouts on their roster, second baseman Grace Lopez and right fielder Mackenzie Bekofsky. Both in their second seasons in Missoula and hitting over .300, Lopez is leading the team with a .373 average and eight extra base hits, while Bekofsky has driven in a team-high 13 runs. Saint Mary's leads the all-time series against Montana, 4-2.
