MSOC: Herrick Named To WCC Preseason All-Conference Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Doug Herrick of the Saint Mary's men's soccer team was named to the 2011 West Coast Conference Preseason All-Conference Team, it was announced on Tuesday in a vote by WCC head coaches. The WCC preseason poll was announced as well with Saint Mary's picked fifth with one first-place vote.
Loyola Marymount, who tied for the conference title last season, was tabbed to repeat as conference champions and received six, first-place votes. San Diego received one more point than Santa Clara for the No. 2 spot. Following Santa Clara at No. 3 was Portland (No. 4), Saint Mary's (No. 5) and San Francisco and Gonzaga tied at No. 6.
Herrick, who led the WCC in shutouts with seven in 2010, was one of seven seniors on the 10 member preseason all-conference team. Also on the team was Mykell Bates of SCU, Roger Downes of LMU, Steven Evans of Portland, Erik Hurtado of Santa Clara, Artur Jozkowicz of LMU, Ryan Kawulok of Portland, James Matern of Gonzaga, Stephen Posa of San Diego and Patrick Wallen of San Diego.
Saint Mary's hosts Stanford in an exhibition game at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Saint Mary's Stadium. The game will be free admission for everyone.
