Saint Mary's had four student-athletes selected to the First Team All-West Region and one named Second Team.
MORAGA, Calif. — United Soccer Coaches announced their All-Region teams today and five Gaels were named to All-West teams, including four to the First Team.
Earning First Team honors were goalkeeper Remi Prieur, midfielder Jakub Svehlik, forward Jake Rudel, and forward Anders Engebretsen. Making Second Team was defender Filippo Zattarin.
The Gaels had more student-athletes on the First Team than any other West Region school. The West Coast Conference was well represented on the list as eight of the 11 nominees came from the conference. Portland and Pacific also had two members each selected to First Team.
Saint Mary's won the WCC for the third time ever this season and completed an incredible 18-0-2 record to finish the year as the only undefeated team in the country. The Gaels beat Oregon State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Stanford in the third round via penalty kicks. During the year, the men's soccer program became the highest ranked team in Saint Mary's history, surpassing the No. 5 ranking previously held by the women's program.
In addition to the West Region awards, SMC had nine players recognized as All-WCC this year, including five Gaels chosen as First Team and two named All-Freshman. Engebretsen and Stephen Dougherty also earned All-Academic nods from the conference for excellent work in the classroom.
