Berkeley, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis Team kicked off their first competition of 2022 on day one of the Cal Winter Invite featuring SMC, Santa Clara University, Cal Poly, and host Cal Berkeley.

The invite is the last multi-team competition of the season for the Gaels before beginning head-to-head match ups. It is being held at the Hellman Tennis Complex & Channing Tennis Courts on the Cal campus and runs through Sunday, January 16. Fans can watch live via the Bears live stream link.

Saint Mary's matched up with Santa Clara in the singles section held at the Hellman Tennis Complex won four of five matches. No. 74 Mariia Kozyreva defeated Finley Kalinic 6-1, 6-2, Lene Mari Hovda outlasted Jaimie Schoer 6-7(5), 6-1, 1-0, Jocelyn Massey topped Varya Zlotnik 6-1, 6-0, and Gabriela Tevez beat Lindsey Pesqueira 7-6(3), 6-2.

The doubles portion of the day didn't go as well for the Gaels as they were swept by the Cal Bears in four matches.

The Gaels are matched up with Santa Clara University for their doubles match ups and are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. They'll take on Cal Poly for their singles matches which are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
