WCC Preseason Poll and 2025-26 Season Preview…
The West Coast Conference announced the 2025-26 preseason coaches poll on Thursday, October 23rd as Saint Mary's was picked to finish seventh out of the twelve member institutions. After running the table with some dramatic finishes in the 2025 WCC Tournament, Oregon State earned nine first place votes for the top spot in the poll. Gonzaga was picked to finish second with three first place votes while Washington State was picked to finish third with 94 points.
Saint Mary's returns nine players including the 2025 Sixth Woman of the Year in Emily Foy. Foy is coming off of a career season where she averaged 8.3 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 43% from the field and 35% from three. Head coach Jeff Cammon also added some talent from inside the conference, securing transfers Malia Latu and Georgia Grigoropoulou from Santa Clara. Latu was a near every game starter for the Broncos, finishing the 2024-25 season with 10.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and nearly three assists per game. For Grigoropoulou, she played in 31 games and finished third on the team in rebounding with nearly five boards a game. Other notable returners for Saint Mary's include redshirt junior Abigail Shoff, sophomore Edie Clarke and junior Jada Hunter who will help lead the Gaels backcourt.
Saint Mary's was an even 10-10 in conference play last season, finishing sixth in the WCC standings. They earned a double-bye into the third round but saw an early exit after falling to Pacific. The Gaels will continue to look for their first conference tournament win in the Cammon era and first since defeating LMU in the first round back in 2023.
Series History…
Saint Mary's and Wyoming have met three times in their series history with the last meeting coming in 2019. The two programs met in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019, splitting the two games. The Cowgirls defended home court with a 69-67 victory in 2019 while the Gaels won at home in a shootout in 2018, 90-84. The third meeting came back in 2015 and stands as the only road win for the Gaels in Laramie, defeating the Cowgirls 70-64.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS (Mountain West)
Wyoming head coach Heather Ezell is entering her fourth season with the Cowgirls and has gotten off to a stellar start over her first three seasons in Laramie. Ezell has tallied 63 wins, three top-three finishes in the Mountain West regular season standings and a pair of trips to the conference tournament championship game. The Cowgirls are coming off of a dramatic triple overtime defeat to San Diego State in the 2025 Mountain West tournament championship game. They did earn a postseason bid to the WBIT but would fall in the first round to Texas Tech to conclude another successful season under the Ezell era.
The 2025-26 roster will look quite different this season as the Cowgirls returned just one starter and three players that averaged more than ten minutes a game. The Cowgirls also had to say goodbye to some program greats in Allyson Fertig (2025 MW Player of the Year) and Emily Mellema (2025 MW Defensive Player of the Year). The leader this season will be Malene Pedersen who averaged 14.0 points and 3.7 rebounds last season. Pedersen was named to the Preseason All-MW team as Wyoming was picked to finish sixth by the league's coaches in the preseason poll.
Wyoming will faceoff with two West Coast Conference programs in Saint Mary's on November 4th and then Santa Clara on November 14th in California. The Cowgirls will welcome the Gaels to Laramie for the third time in their series history.
