MSOC | Surafel Abebe Called up to u-21 Ethiopian National Team

MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's Surafel Abebe got called up to the u-21 Ethiopian National Team earlier this month for a March training camp featuring several friendlies against Ehtiopian Premier League clubs. Abebe joined the Gaels men's soccer program this past season after spending his first collegiate season with Saint Francis University. He was a standout at Seattle Academy before beginning his collegiate career, a four year letter winner where they were 2023 WIAA 1A State and ESC District Champions. Abebe was also a First Team All-League recipient in 2023 and was also named a 2023 All-State Midfielder.

"I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia so it's always been a dream of mine to get the opportunity to represent my country" said Abebe. "I'm incredibly grateful to be called into a camp. This is something I've been working towards for years, and now that it's here, I just want to make the most of it" (Abebe).

Abebe reports to training camp on March 10th and will train and compete through the end of the month.
