BSB | Gaels Win Fifth Consecutive Game in Midweek Shootout, 16-10 over Nevada
4/13/2026 9:49:00 PM | Baseball
MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's baseball team extended its win streak to five games Monday night after a 16-10 slugfest victory over Nevada. The Gaels became the first team in the West Coast Conference to 22 wins and also improved their home record to 13-5 this season.
Saint Mary's (22-14) trailed for the third consecutive game on Monday as the Wolf Pack jumped out to a 7-3 lead after the top of the third. Pitching was thin on both sides but Saint Mary's took advantage of Nevada's slim bullpen with 13 unanswered runs over three innings to secure a 16-7 lead. Nevada (19-14) hit a three-run homer in the eighth to avoid the run rule but Noah Waldeck closed out the game with a clean ninth inning to give Saint Mary's its longest win streak of the season at five games.
The Gaels recorded a season high 16 runs off their 18 hits including four-hit ballgames from Makoa Sniffen and Brett Williams. Williams got the start behind the dish and was terrific both at the plate and in the field. He tied his career high with four hits including a pair of doubles and also threw out his third runner of the season to tie everyday starter Ian Armstrong for the season lead. Two of Sniffen's four hits in the ballgame came as home runs as he recorded his second multi-homer game of the season and is now tied with teammate Jacob Johnson for the team lead with eight. Junior center fielder Tanner Griffith also had an efficient day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a season high four RBI.
True freshman Joseph Moreno would get credit for his first collegiate win as he came on as the second pitcher in the game for Saint Mary's, pitching a career high 2.2 scoreless innings allowing just two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's continued its hot streak Monday night with a 16-10 victory over Nevada to push its season long win streak to five games. The Gaels fell behind early 7-3 but scored 13 unanswered runs with four in the third, three in the fourth and six in the fifth to take a 16-7 lead. Four runs in the third were highlighted by a solo home run from Makoa Sniffen for his seventh of the season and then an RBI double from catcher Brett Williams to tie the game at seven.
Joseph Moreno tossed a clean top of the fourth to get the Gaels right back to the plate where they scored another three runs including back-to-back homers from Diego Castellanos and Makoa Sniffen. The Gaels have now gone back-to-back in consecutive games after Ian Armstrong and Brady Petit hit homers one after the other on Sunday in their 16-11 extra inning win against Santa Clara. Tanner Griffith ended the fourth with a sacrifice fly to give Saint Mary's a 10-7 lead.
The Gaels would reach their largest lead of the afternoon with a six-run fifth inning. Saint Mary's recorded seven hits in the frame and batted around to take a 16-7 lead. Sniffen delivered a two-RBI single with the bases loaded and then the Gaels took back-to-back hit by pitches to plate another two runs. After a pitching change from Nevada, Nick Allred delivered an RBI single to right field before Williams rifled his fourth hit of the ballgame to right to score the Gaels 16th run of the game.
SMC pitching tossed four scoreless frames before the Wolf Pack hit a three-run homer in the eighth. Contributing to that stretch was Moreno followed by fellow freshman Jake Nobles who threw three innings including two scoreless and a game high four strikeouts before giving up the homer in the eighth. Noah Waldeck would come on in his tenth appearance of the season to complete the ninth inning, not allowing a hit and striking out two batters to seal the 16-10 victory.
