Box Score MALIBU, Calif. - For the second-straight game the Gaels posted a shutout, and will return from their Southern-California, West Coast Conference road trip unbeaten to improve to 9-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play.
Taylor Poland made four saves in the game, and all of them came at critical junctures in the second half and overtime for her seventh shutout of the season. Neither team recorded a shot on goal in the first half, with the Gaels lone shot coming in the 4th minute by
Alexis Gutierrez that sailed wide right. The Gaels defense kept the explosive Waves from generating any quality chances in the first 45 minutes by tightly protecting their goal.
Saint Mary's did create some opportunities on the counter attack, including an opportunity for
AnnaMaria DiGeronimo late in the game. The speedy, fifth-year senior nearly beat two defenders for a shot as she attempted her signature move of turning the corner around defenders and firing a tough angle shot, but the Pepperdine defender did just enough to keep DiGeronimo from getting off a clean look.
Poland made two saves in the during the double overtime frames and her defense swarmed Waves attackers, breaking up passes and blocking shots to preserve the tie against the the #3 team in the country.
