WTEN | Round 1 Win for Kozyreva at NCAA Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Mariia Kozyreva defeated Reilly Tran from No. 1 North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Monday afternoon to advance to the field of 32.
No. 43 Kozyreva becomes just the second SMC Women's Tennis player to advance to the second round and the first since Jenny Jullien defeated Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan in three sets in round one of 2014.
"Masha" won 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 over the Tarheels sophomore, who came into match ranked No. 35 in the country and was ranked as high No. 7 this season.
The 5th-year Gael will take on Mananchaya Sawnkaew of Oklahoma State in round two on Tuesday, May 24 at 11:30 a.m. PDT.
